Work done by the Drever
The Drever is a scent hound, used mainly to hunt roe and red deer, but also hare and fox.
It is the most popular breed among Swedish hunters, because of the way it hunts – being small sized, it can track slower than a large dog, which is useful when hunting deer, an animal that stresses easily. The Drever can thus get closer to its prey. Besides, it is capable of following a scent for a long time, which is an advantage when hunting in areas with low prey density.
If the prey is only injured after the shot, the Drever will also follow the blood trail, tracking and locating the injured animal.
